Lerner Enterprises founded by Theodore N. Lerner, a native Washingtonian in 1952 and based in North Bethesda, Maryland, is the largest private real estate developer in the Washington, D.C. area. Lerner Enterprises is involved in all phases of office, retail, hotel and residential real estate, including acquisitions, development, leasing and asset and property management. Ted Lerner is the Founder and a Principal of Lerner Enterprises. His son, Mark D. Lerner, and sons-in-law, Edward L. Cohen and Robert K. Tanenbaum, are Principals of the company.
The company's willingness to embrace modern concepts, its ability to foresee whole new cities where little yet exists and the use of the latest technologies are hallmarks of the Lerner brand. Its development activity is concentrated in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The Lerner organization employs more than 600 people.
Lerner Enterprises develops, leases and manages large scale office buildings, office and business parks, malls and shopping centers, hotels, residential communities and land development projects. Lerner Enterprises is also a partner in Chelsea Piers, a landmark 30-acre sports and entertainment complex on the Hudson River in New York City. The Lerner family is a minority partner in Lincoln Holdings, LLC group, which owns 100 percent of the NHL Washington Capitals and the WNBA Washington Mystics and 44 percent of the NBA Washington Wizards and Verizon Center.
