For fifty years, the leadership of Theodore N. Lerner has been a preeminent force throughout the region. His company, Lerner Enterprises, is responsible for building thousands of apartments and single family homes, regional malls, power and community shopping centers and more than 20 million square feet of commercial and retail buildings. So important is his influence that The Washingtonian magazine once reported, "Odds are that every adult in Washington has lived, worked or shopped in a building developed by Ted Lerner..."
The company's willingness to embrace modern concepts, ability to foresee whole new cities where nothing yet exists and use of the latest technologies and materials are hallmarks of the Lerner brand. From the creation of some of the nation's first regional malls in the 1960's (Wheaton Plaza and Tysons Corner Center) to launching of three comprehensive office, business, entertainment and residential complexes (Tysons II, White Flint and Dulles Town Center), Lerner Enterprises has defined the suburban landscape. It has also been responsible for many of the city's most important modern landmarks like the award-winning Washington Square at Connecticut Avenue and L Street, N. W. Lerner Enterprises is also a major investor in Chelsea Piers, a 30 acre sports and entertainment complex in New York City.
Lerner Enterprises is wholly owned and operated by Lerner and his family. A robust 77-year-old Ted Lerner works with his son Mark. D. Lerner and sons-in-law, Robert K. Tanenbaum and Edward L. Cohen, all principals of the firm.

Lerner Family Foundation, they contribute to local, national and international endeavors including The George Washington University, where two buildings bear their names, the U. S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Food and Friends, Hadley's Park, Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts, Georgetown Day and Charles E. Smith Jewish Day Schools, Weizmann Institute of Science, Hebrew University and many others. In 1999, Lerner Enterprises earned The Greater DC Family Business of the Year Award.
